Biography

Roxana Arama is a Romanian American author living in Seattle, Washington, a UNESCO-designated City of Literature. She studied computer science in Bucharest, Romania, and moved to the United States to work in software development before shifting careers to professional writing. She now writes thrillers and speculative fiction.

She has a master of fine arts in creative writing from Goddard College, and her work has been published in many fiction and nonfiction magazines. Her debut thriller, Extreme Vetting, was published by Ooligan Press (Portland State University) earlier this year, on the exact date 22 years since the day she arrived in the US as an immigrant.

She was a featured debut author at ThrillerFest XVIII and has been interviewed on podcasts such as The Authors Show, The Culture Buzz, and The Book Bistro. She’s also been interviewed by, or featured in, The Strand Magazine, The Big Thrill, JeanBookNerd, The Mystery of Writing, and the IndieView. Her essays have been published in CrimeReads, Book Club Babble, Shepherd, Writer, Writer, Pants on Fire, and Women Writers, Women’s Books.

Prior to her debut novel’s publication, her short stories and essays generated some recognition. Her work was selected as a finalist in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest and Tucson Festival of Books, and received an honorable mention in the San Antonio Writers’ Guild Annual Writing Contest.

She is a member of SFWA (Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association), ITW (International Thriller Writers, Inc.), the Authors Guild, and Codex Writers’ Group.
